Darwen born and bred Phil Walsh will be live at Sunbird Records in association with Darwen Music Projects on 11th September 2024. Houston, Texas based for the last 18 years, Phil was a fixture of the East Lancs music scene for many years with Russian For Money and NiLSTAR releasing singles on Traci Records. Now a solo artist, this will be his only UK live performance in 2024 and the first time he has gigged in his hometown in any guise since 2016. He will be performing his album ‘Down to the Wire’ released on the New York indie label, Tarbeach Records, as well as new songs with a few surprises thrown in for good measure.

As this is a special one-off event, Phil has enlisted the help of two of his siblings also active in creative fields and now London based; Kate A. Walsh, who is a professional audiobook narrator and BBC1 continuity announcer, will be providing some content as will Peter Revel-Walsh, actor, voice over and pioneering AI creator. Peter is crafting some cutting-edge visual segments for the show.

Gig support is from Devil of Lanternwood, an exciting new project featuring Clive Dove, Phil’s ex band mate in RFM. Clive will also be guesting on a number of songs with Phil.

Phil said ‘I’m excited to be playing in my hometown at Sunbird as the venue is an important Darwen asset for local music, musicians and creative souls in the area. To me it’s a natural progression for Darwen that builds on the work done over many years by a lot of people and especially the Darwen Music Collective. The town has such a rich musical heritage punching far above its weight. I know from personal experience in the early days the importance of venues willing to take a chance on grass roots original music. The recent involvement of the Music Venue Trust is an important endorsement recognizing the calibre of this venue that is run on a volunteer basis.’

It is a free event but contributions to help support Sunbird Records are encouraged so we can keep this important cultural focal point going.

Devil Of Lanternwood

We are pleased to announce that new music is about to be released. “The Ghost” is already available on Spotify and is the first of a series of songs to be released under the band name Devil of Lanternwood. This will soon be followed by four more songs already completed, awaiting artwork before release. Devil of Lanternwood (DoL) is a new project with two core members Robert Davenport and Clive Dove, supported by several talented musicians who offer additional material.
